Why register a Business Name?
Are you operating a business, if so the Business Names Act 1962 requires you to register the name with the Registrar of Business Names?
Registration ensures that a public list is available so consumers and suppliers can identify the owners of a business name.
How will it help me?
Registration allows you to establish a business identity. Customers/Suppliers will be more likely to deal with someone who has a registered business name.
Will my business name be accepted?
Searches are carried out to determine whether a name is available for registration. Even if the name you apply for is not already registered, it will not necessarily be available for registration. Misleading, offensive or undesirable names will not be registered.
General Information
Business Names are registered State by State. For example if you are planning to operate a business in each State of Australia then your Business Name will need to be registered in each State.
